beans and broccoli

High time the brassicas and beans went out - so Carol, Cate and Sarah put in a long evening in sunshine until nearly 11pm. Brassicas were put straight out into limed soil. Purple sprouting broccoli. Yum yum!

Bean trenches were lined with newspaper (a la Emily) and filled with manure and soil mix before planting the beans, two to a pole.

Sowing brassicas

Finally, my nightmares have had the wind taken out of their sails. The brassica seeds are in, and I haven't missed the season. What a strange dream to have you say? I completely agree. I didn't ask for it.

Anyway, three trays have joined the others, each half sown with purple sprouting broccoli, F1 hybrid broccoli, chinese cabbage, brussel sprouts, red cabbage and greyhound cabbage. So there, that's done. I shall try and beat the slugs and caterpillars to it this year. All suggestions as to the methods welcome - please leave as a comment!

Sowing day

Cate, Malcolm and Sarah met up in the greenhouse today and prepped up seed trays of broccoli (1), mange tout (2), peas (2), rocket and onion (1), and a bunch of lettuces (4). Nenya got her tomatoes and aubergines in.
